The "reverse" Celsius scale

Did you that in 1742, the Swedish astronomer Anders Celsius (1701–1744), created the a temperature scale which was the REVERSE of what we call today the "Celsius" scale: indeed, 0 represented the boiling point of water and 100 its freezing point!

How to open a door from the outside .... without the key

Image
Hello Internet! Today I want to tell you a little tip that will save you some money... i.e. the cost of a call to locksmith :) Did ever happen to you to lock out of your appartment? In many countries apartment doors have handles only on the inside, so if you go out (without the key ) and your door closes after you, you are screwed! Personally I did happen to me twice in the last 8 months :( Anyway, the easiest way (the one I used!) to unlock your door is with a credit card or, better, a loyalty card from a supermarket, because it could be damaged in the process! Then, the only thing you have to do, is to insert the card just next the knob and push ! That's it! After some practice, it works :) However, I have to tell you a couple of things... 1) Not all doors can be opened this way. 2) If you don't have a loyalty card to use, your neighbor certainly has it! This nice video explains it better that I did! There are also other ways to open a door without keys ,...

The Hillier Pink lake

Image
I have just learned that in Australia there is a pink lake! It is the Hillier Lake and it's AWESOME! ( http://touristmeetstraveler.com/ ) The most notable feature of the lake is its pink colour. The colour is permanent, and does not alter when the water is taken in a container. Interestingly, the source of the pink colour has not been definitively proven in the case of Lake Hillier, but the pink colour could be due to red halophilic bacteria in the salt crusts. Despite the unusual hue, the lake exhibits no known adverse effects upon humans. From above, the lake appears a solid bubble gum pink  If you want to see where the Hillier Lake is, take a look on Google Maps From wikipedia

Why does the login check take longer if the password is wrong?

Have you ever wondered why it takes longer for your PC (Windows/Linux or Mac) to tell you that you password you just entered is wrong?  "Longer" compared to the case when you insert the password correctly. It turns out the extra delay is introduced on purpose just for safety reasons. The operating systems takes longer to answer to a wrong password simply to "piss off" possible intruders who usually try a list of passwords to access your system. Basically, it's a very simple and effective way to limit how fast passwords can be checked. Sources: stackoverflow.com superuser.com
