The Overton Widow

Image
Happy New Year! Usually I don't discuss polics here, but The Overton Widow is a pretty interesting psychological mechanism! In the last 12 months, we did really get used to all the absurdities of the crazy old man -- and his team! -- that happens to rule the USA.

Where do the Bluetooth symbol and name come from?

Image
The name "Bluetooth" comes from the Scandinavian Blåtand/Blåtann and Harald " Blåtand " Gormsson (935-985) was King of Denmark and Norway. He united dissonant Danish tribes into a single kingdom and, according to legend, introduced Christianity as well. When the name was proposed in 1997, the implication was that Bluetooth does the same with communication devices, uniting them into one single "rule". About the symbol itself it comes from the name of the King since it's the  merging of the rune H for Harald with the rune B for Blåtand: ( source: redice.tv ) Cool eh?

The hidden brain in the Sistine Chapel

Hello Internet! Sorry for the long long absence! It has been a while since my last post! 2016 was a tough year for me, especially to the end... but here I am, again! I chose something really juicy for the comeback! If you haven't been there yet, please visit Rome at least once in your life. It's such a wonderful city! Or let Robin Williams do the talking in this famous scene from Will Hunting : Anyway, as part of the Fresco, there is The Creation of Adam  (source: wikipedia ) So what about it? Well Michelangelo hid a brain in the background figures and shapes behind the image of God!  (source: the verge ) This is at least of the theory proposed in ...

How not to die hard with math

Image
Every once in a while Google/Youtube succeeds in giving me some good recommendations about new channels/videos I could be interested in. This is was exactly the case with Mathologer , a really interesting math channel, that I warmly recommend too. In the episode How not to die hard with math Burkard Polster analyses the problem which appeared in Die Hard with a vengeance (1995, Bruce Willis & Samuel L. Jackson). I wouldn't be surprised if the same problem would be chosen for testing the skills of an applicant during a job Interview! Enjoy!
